Does anyone know of "JOHN COLLINS" who was a Coastguard from about,1834 to about1855. John lived with his first wife and several children in a Coastguard Cottage in Broadwater Sussex for sometime. His wfe Mary(nee Toy)died of consumption in 1851 and in 1853 John Remarried.
John's second wife was Louisa Hoskins, wife of the late William Hoskins, Mariner at Broadwater Sussex, who died during the rescue attempt of the "Lallah Rook'.
The 1861 census shows that John and Louisa and their large family lived at no7 West Building Broadwater Sussex. They had returned to Cornwall to live by about 1858. John was now a Coastguard Pensioner.(1861 Census.)
John and Louisa had four children the youngest being Ada Rose Collins who is my Grandmother.Three of their children were born in St. Mawe's Cornwall.
John's Father William was a Coastguard Pilot.
Two of John's sons were either Coastguards or Mariners. They were William John Collins And Alfred Collins. Alfred apparently was drowned at sea off Caldy island in 1889.
I have had the pleasure of reading Rob Blanns Book," A Town's Pride" what wonderful reading. I am impressed with the in depth research and the closeness he seemed to have with the people. Thankyou Rob, I felt very well informed and was drawn into the amazing and often heart wrenching stories, in the book.I recommend it to all.
If anyone can give me anymore info on these families or the Caldy island shipwreck in 1889. I will be very happy.

Hi Rachel
I have just come across your request while searching for information on my family tree. It seems we share the some of the same relatives. I come from the children of Johns and his first wife Mary Toy who died of TB. I will buy the book you have recommended as I am very interested in the area of St Mawes having visited Cornwall earlier this year. If you would like to contact me by phone or email I am happy to pass on my details. I live in Drouin, Victoria.
thanks
