The following memory was sent in by email from young Sami Leopold who has only recently left school.

I was born in July 1985 in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England. (At the same hospital my son was born in.)

I went to a junior school called St.Catherine's and my friends were Clare, Amy and Gemma (my main ones).

Recently I have met up with Gemma again and we have become close friends. I've always stayed in touch with Amy, I've known her since I was two or three from playschool, and am no longer friends with Clare.

My secondary school was Chauncy, also in Hertfordshire. Amy went there too, but other friends were Hayley, (a girl who used to have epilepsy and had brain surgery), Kelly, Hollie, a girl called Sarah who loves horses, and a few others. I only left school last June.

When I was younger (about six or seven), I never used to want to use a knife and fork at the dinner table! My dad used to get so cross and shout at me until he went red in the face. I used to get so scared I would hide under the table and tie my family's shoelaces together!

Sami Leopold, Ware, 2001 .
